Public Sleep/Sleepover is a series of performances that took place in 2005 at Artist Space (NYC) over a fourteen hour time frame. Curated by Koosil-Ja, several artists performed at the same time in the same space. NyK took an area of the gallery and set up a live studio with three TV monitors, three video cameras and lights to set the stage. Each performance was recorded during a 60 minute period -length of a mini dv tape-. The recording was consecutively used as a device to create a new 60 minute performance which was filmed again, repeating this action for 14 hours. With this system the performance pieces would increasingly become more mediated by the use of layered video. By the end of the 14 hour exercise, the documentation -originally an instrument to record an action- would become a protagonist in the creative process, relating back directly to the mediated image. During this 14 hour period NyK created Beautify, Sleep and Tease.
